Co-op #1 |
Accuboost is a very small (10 employee) start up working on a novel boost dose radiation system for breast cancer patients undergoing lumpectomies. Based in Tyngsborough MA, the company engineers, tests, and assembles components in house. While I was there, the second generation system was under development and I participated in the development of three prototype iterations.

Reduced Height Stand Adapter
Problem:
-New system designed for use on Planmed mammography machine and must be retrofitted for use on GE system and positioned to keep a consistent magnification factor to standardize parts between systems •Goals: -Integrate into current mounting system on GE machine -Create a consistent magnification factor across multiple platforms -Minimize deflection under compression to align radiation source above and below -Easy to assemble in place -Low cost •Solution: -Measured height of prototype on Planmed machine and calculated the magnification of the GE system -Tested and measured deflection of current stand at 1.5x max compressive force -Compared pixel size of test images to confirm calculated height -Added second set screw to secure mount -Slotted mount to allow for large tolerance of stand -Designed fatigue test to ensure deflection remains within allowable tolerance |
